22nd May and some bad news to report.

This damage was done to the pavilion some time during last week-end. Kids climb onto the roof every so often and this time instead of being satisfied with that achievement, they’ve gone one step further and decided to take the gable end apart. They made their way into the roof space above the room we meet in and came in through the ceiling. When I went over to see if any of our stuff has been trashed I was very relieved to find that it didn’t look like they had touched anything inside. Nevertheless I thought it prudent to take a few things home for safe keeping in case they planned a return visit.

The council will make the necessary repairs to the outside and inside and hopefully by the time we return to the pavilion it will all be back to normal. However, a question remains regarding the stability of the building. If it was that easy for the bricks to become dislodged – I doubt that the kids took any lump hammers up there with them – the mortar must have turned to dust. A building that is over 100 years old probably needs a bit of attention but that’s something way down the spending agenda and won’t happen any time soon.

The good news is that if Heaton Moor Park pavilion is still out of action when restrictions are lifted and we’re allowed to meet in person, Agnes says we can meet in Heaton Norris Park pavilion instead. Yay! Thanks Agnes 🙂

So, another excellent Zoom session today with lots to report:

• The Heatons Covid 19 facebook group is starting an informal chat group on Thursdays at 11.00 so that people who feel lonely or isolated can come together and have a friendly natter. They’re calling it ‘pop the kettle on’ and chatting is on-line or by phone.
• May has been knitting teddies for Salford Royal Hospital; in pairs so that one can left with the ill child and the other kept with the family.
• Jayne has finished a beautiful crocheted blanket in rainbow colours for the baby due in November. Quite a feat for Jayne as she has only been able to crochet granny squares ’till now and the blanket is circular! Youtube videos are really handy!
• Liz has finished her stay at home cushion CAL (crochet- along) cushion cover using whatever yarn bits she had to hand – not hard as she has loads of yarn 🙂 This was a project run by a local lady in Sale on her website www.frenchknots.co.uk and is free to access.
• Liz also told us about a French breed lamb, Noah, recently born at Peak Wildlife Park who is really cute.
