Small knits to start the year off

Do you start the year with a list of projects you intend to make? Or, are you like me? I start with a list of projects that I tell myself I need to finish before embarking on yet another one. I started the year with seven WIPs and so far have managed to finish two, so I can give myself a pat on the back.

If you’re new to knitting or lacking confidence, I recommend starting with a small project that won’t take long. A scarf might be an easy knit but it can take a long time to complete. A hat, on the other hand (or head ha,ha), is a fairly quick project and not as hard as it looks. Beginners should knit hats on straight needles. However, if you want to extend your skills, try knitting a hat in the round. The advantage of knitting in the round is – there’s no sewing up! Yay!

Pat recently knitted another one of these lovely hats (on straights).

I avoid sewing up whenever I can so these hats that I finished just before Christmas were knitted in the round and are destined for a local charity.

Chunky yarn + large needles + using up odds and ends of yarn + going to a good cause. What’s not to like?
