Time flies when you’re enjoying yourself and meeting friends for knitting and chatting, and putting the world to rights.

On Friday the 25th of August 2013 we celebrated the group’s 12th birthday with a bring and share lunch that would not have looked out of place in a commercial establishment. The table groaned under a selection of quiches, pork pies, river trout, sandwiches, salads, cold meats, cheese, mini pizzas, crisps, scones with jam, cream and strawberries, cheese cake, fruity flapjacks, sparkling fruit juices, prosecco, tea and coffee, and a truly fabulous celebration cake.

The amazingly talented Linda created a bespoke cake that tasted as good as it looked. Each element was carefully considered – the items are all things that we have knitted.

Our group came into being on the 26th of August 2011. There were seven of us that day: Rose, Phyllis, Margaret and her daughter Alison, Debbie and her daughter Hannah and me. Rose also brought her young grand-daughter Connie along as a visitor. We all knew each other from an evening knitting group that met in The Plough pub in Heaton Moor but agreed that a daytime group might suit some people more. And we were right. Over the years we have seen members come and go but there has always been a core of regulars who keep the group going. I’ve been here from the start, obvs!, Catherine joined just a few weeks later. Alison and Margaret who came on the first day still count themselves as members even though it’s difficult to come along to meetings but they keep in touch and that’s just as important.

Of the ladies who were at the 12th birthday, around half have been members for many years and half have become members fairly recently. So, here’s a competition for you:-
